Rooney is 'perfect coach' says Cissoko

Wayne Rooney has been described as the ‘perfect coach’ by Plymouth Argyle summer signing Ibrahim Cissoko.

The 21-year-old is one of a handful new faces that have been brought to Home Park, joining on a season-long loan from French Ligue 1 club Toulouse.

And the Dutch winger insisted linking up with Rooney was a draw card in him ultimately deciding to make the switch to the Pilgrims.

"I was at Toulouse and I didn't get so much play time there,” he said. “I'm still a young player so it was important for me to play and to look forward. Argyle came in and I spoke with the people, I had a good feeling, and I think I made the right choice."

Cissoko has featured in all of Argyle’s pre-season fixtures to date, including their latest against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium, and he admits he is adapting well to his new surroundings and life under Rooney.

"He [Rooney] was also an attacker and I speak with him about that,” added Cissoko. “I think it's perfect that he's my coach. He lets me have the freedom to play and that's what I need."

“As a team, we are getting better day-by-day. We are getting more used to each other, so I think two more weeks and then we are ready.”

Argyle will kick-off their latest Sky Bet Championship campaign with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, August 11, before they face  home games against Cheltenham Town in the Carabao Cup on August 14 and Hull City in the Championship on August 17.

This will give Cissoko his first meaningful taste of English football, although he has already impressed in the warm-up friendlies, which included victories over Cheltenham and Torquay United, before a 2-1 loss at Rovers.

"I think they have been good games. The tempo is really high, I enjoy the football and there is a good connection, so I think it's going to be a good season. I was not used to this kind of tempo but I think I have developed quick and now I'm used to it."
