Devon clubs set for live TV coverage

Four more of Plymouth Argyle’s 2024/25 Championship fixtures are to be televised live by Sky Sports.

The news came in the latest confirmation of TV picks confirmed for the period up to the FA Cup third round, which will be staged over the weekend of January 10/11/12, 2025.

This comes in addition to three fixtures which have already been chosen for live coverage, including the Pilgrims’ seasonal opener against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, which will now be played on Sunday, August 11 at 4pm.

Argyle’s first round Carabao Cup tie against Cheltenham Town at Home Park on Wednesday, August 14 will also be broadcast on Sky Sports +, a new channel with numerous live streams.

The latest changes for TV broadcast are as follows:

Saturday, October 19 - Cardiff City v Plymouth Argyle - now kicks-off at 12:30pm - broadcast live on Sky Sports +

Tuesday, November 5 - Plymouth Argyle v Portsmouth - 8pm - Sky Sports Football

Friday, November 22 - Plymouth Argyle v Watford - 8pm - Sky Sports Football

Saturday, January 4 - Stoke City v Plymouth Argyle - 12:30pm - Sky Sports +

In addition to those changes, Argyle have confirmed their home game against Bristol City on New Year’s Day will have a 12:30pm kick-off.

Like Argyle, Devon rivals Exeter City have also had changes made to their fixture list to accommodate live coverage on Sky Sports Football.

City’s trip to Shrewsbury Town, which was scheduled for Saturday, October, 19, will now take place on Thursday, October 17, 8pm, while three weeks later, their home match against Lincoln City on Saturday, November 16 will now kick-off at the earlier time of 12:30pm.

In statement from the EFL, it read: “As per our previous commitment these selections have been published before the start of the EFL season, ensuring Clubs are now in a position to advise supporters of the changes to be made well in advance of the fixtures taking place. Selections have been made by Sky after liaising with the respective Clubs, relevant authorities and the League.

“This new notice period is a significant improvement on the previous position, which saw five weeks' notice given across the majority of the season. By selecting TV picks early and giving much more notice, fans will be able to plan with more certainty when making travel and hotel arrangements. While some fixtures have been moved in order to be broadcast, during a regular weekend, 26 of the 36 matches across the three divisions have not been moved from the Saturday 3:00pm kick off slot.

“The League is also committed to greater parity in the number of times that Clubs are selected for TV coverage across all competitions, with Clubs set to feature more than 20 times per season on Sky Sports.

Broadcast selections are subject to change due to fixture rearrangements in relation to international call-ups and Cup ties.”
