Crama offers case for the defence

Exeter City have bolstered their defensive options ahead of the new season with the loan signing of Tristan Crama from Premier League outfit, Brentford.

The French centre-back becomes Gary Caldwell ninth new face to head to St James’ Park this summer.

Crama is no stranger to Sky Bet League One, having featured 34 times last season for Bristol Rovers during a successful loan spell.

His career started back in his homeland with local club, AS Beziers, where he initially started out as a holding midfielder, before eventually moving to centre-half.

His impressive performance in the French third tier brought him to the attention of Brentford, who brought him to West London in 2020.

“I didn’t speak any English when I first arrived, but I’ve had four good seasons in England,” he said. “I enjoyed myself in Bristol last season, it was my first loan, and I enjoyed every game.

“I learnt a lot during my time there and now I am looking forward to my new loan with Exeter.”

Crama featured in both fixtures against City last term and is a close friend of former Grecian, Ryan Trevitt, who gave the newcomer a glowing endorsement of his new club.

“It’s been really good to speak with the gaffer [Gary Caldwell]. I knew he was a good gaffer because I am good friends with Ryan Trevitt and he spoke well of everyone. When I spoke to him, it helped me a lot to make the decision.

“After that, I knew I was making the right decision with the way we wanted to play. I knew I was going to grow as a person and as a player.

“Even when he was at City and I was at Bristol, we were very close, we spoke a lot and he always talked well about the club. Even before I joined, he pushed me to come here and said I would enjoy it.”

Now that he is here, Crama is relishing the new campaign, adding: “I am very excited to get started. I am really fit, so I can’t wait to play that first game and meet the fans in the stadium.”
