Caldwell signs new deal with Grecians

Gary Caldwell has spoken of his pride after it was confirmed the Exeter City manager has put pen to paper on a new contract extension with the club.

Caldwell, 42, was appointed Grecians boss in October 2022 and guided the club to a finish of 14th in his first season in charge. Last season, City finished a place higher, and the former Scottish international is looking to build further this term.

“I feel really proud and thankful that the board have given me the opportunity to continue building and developing their brilliant football club,” said Caldwell, who took over from Matt Taylor following his decision to leave to join Rotherham United.

“It’s been nearly two years since I joined the football club - and there’s been a lot of progress made during that time. For me to continue that journey and development taking the club even higher is really exciting.”

Before arriving at St James’ Park, Caldwell had previous management spells with Wigan Athletic, Chesterfield and Partick Thistle.

Nick Hawker, chairman of the Club and Trust, said: “We’re delighted that Gary has extended his contract with Exeter City. It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness the progress Gary and his team have made in building and strengthening the football management structure.

"This contract renewal represents a significant step toward maintaining the club's momentum and ensuring continuity.

"From the very beginning, Gary embraced and understood our unique ownership model, and we’re delighted to continue working together to further the club's achievements and ambitions.”

City are in action this Saturday when they play host to Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One.
