Dickson disappointed after Somerset defeat

A century from Anuj Dal paved the way for Derbyshire to claim a thrilling one-wicket win over Somerset in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

After losing the toss, the hosts were put into bat and posted a creditable total of 316 for five.

Sean Dickson made a superb 86 off 64 balls, with eight fours and three sixes, whilst James Rew hit 88, Andy Umeed 58 and Josh Thomas 54 not out. Zak Chappell claimed three for 54 for the visitors.

Derbyshire’s reply of 317 for nine centred on the middle order efforts of Dal, who struck 115 off 75 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes, and David Lloyd (71).

Seventeen-year-old Harry Moore saw them home with ten balls to spare, scoring 36 not out, while George Thomas returned three for 41, also a List A career-best.

Post-game, a disappointed Dickson reflected on his side’s defeat, saying: “This one is going to hurt a little bit more. I thought we got ourselves in a really good position to win the game. All credit to Derbyshire, Anuj and David Lloyd batted brilliantly and provided that crucial partnership to see them home.”

Having won three out of five games in the competition to date, Dickson and Somerset remain confident they can secure a quarter-final place.

“This one does hurt because we played some really good cricket,” he added. “We got ourselves in a really good position to win this game, but onwards and upwards and on to Northants we go.

“If we can make it four from six, that would be lovely, so we just have to keep going. It’s a tough competition. We lose a lot of players, but the game come thick and fast, so we just need to keep our heads up, play good cricket and go from there.”
