Van Der Velden agrees new Chiefs deal

Linde van der Velden has set her sights on claiming more silverware with the Exeter Chiefs Women after agreeing terms on a new deal with the Premiership Women’s Rugby side.

The 29-year-old forward is one of Susie Appleby’s originals, amassing 67 appearances for the club, since making her debut against Gloucester-Hartpury in the 2020/21 season.

During her four years in Devon, the Netherlands captain has helped the Chiefs to lift the Allianz Cup on two occasions, as well as reach two successive Premier 15s finals.

Her re-signing is the latest boost for Appleby, who is quietly assembling a powerful looking outfit ahead of the new 2024/25 season.

“Having been here from the start, Chiefs has become my second home. I’m looking forward to being back with the girls for pre-season, seeing everyone at Sandy Park and hopefully adding more silverware to our journey,” said van der Velden.

Away from Sandy Park, van der Velden has led her international side to qualification for this year’s WXV3 competition to play for a place in next year’s Rugby World Cup.

Head coach Appleby said: “Linde is a force to be reckoned with and she is our force!

“She is one of our much-valued originals who has helped us develop into the club we are today. She continues to be a leader, both on and off the pitch, and I know the fans will be delighted to have her back at Sandy Park next season.”
